The Therapy Process
1
Initial Consultation
We start by talking through what’s brought you to counselling, your current concerns, and what you’re hoping to get out of the process. This session helps set direction and ensure counselling feels like a good fit.
2
Therapy Plan
Together we develop a shared understanding of your experiences, patterns and stressors. This helps clarify why certain difficulties persist and guides our approach moving forward.
3
Therapy Sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes long and focus on building insight, emotional regulation, and practical strategies. The pace is guided by you, with space for reflection as well as skill-building.
4
Therapy Review
We regularly review progress and adjust goals as needed. If you have a MHTP, I’ll write a letter to your GP with an overview of progress so far after our 6th session.
5
Maintenance or Discharge
Counselling may conclude when you feel more confident managing independently or continue longer-term if appropriate.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. If you are a Medicare card holder, a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan will significantly reduce the out-of-pocket cost of sessions. Alternatively, you may be eligible for rebates if you have private health insurance.
-
Yes, I welcome NDIS participants! As the NDIS supports people with lifelong disabilities, therapy is typically longer-term and focuses on improving daily functioning and building capacity.
-
To access Medicare rebates, please see your GP or psychiatrist for a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral, which they can send to me directly. Alternatively, you can refer yourself or a person you know by completing this referral form.
-
Therapy works better if you’re able to commit to regular sessions, either weekly or fortnightly. This creates a predictable structure and helps build momentum. It also allows me to plan sessions more effectively and maintain a manageable caseload.
-
You’re always in control of the pace and content of sessions. We work within your window of comfort while gently supporting growth over time.

Make an enquiry
It may feel a little overwhelming when you first reach out for support. Many people feel uncertain about what to expect. It can be helpful to have an initial 15-minute chat to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable working together. If you would like to do this, please leave your details in the contact form here and I will contact you to arrange a time to chat. Thanks!
